Music’s (still) happening

This week I went to two meetings of left-wing parties, and one informal gathering of activists. This post is not about those meetings. This post is about a well-hyped but little known artist called La Roux (French for ‘the brown-haired one’). Having whored herself out to a record company she was promoted on Spotify. Originally suspicious of such things as most popular music consists of boy bands, people who don’t own belts and people who wear too much makeup. I listened to her tracks, then promptly forgot about them.

Last weekend I happened upon the music videos accompanying her songs. They’re infused with such a strong style they can’t be dismissed as simply mainstream rubbish. This is why I’m linking them below:

If compared to something from the time the style is instantly recognizable, even if you mute the sound.
