Artificial depth-of-field

On Friday I followed another tutorial on the Pain.NET forums. This one was to simulate the depth of field effect, to make things easy I used a Halo screenshot. Starting with this:

dpof test original
I cut it into it’s seperate objects: halo dpof objects
Then applied a greyscale gradient to each object (note that the Spartan is our focal point so they are completely white): halo dpof alpha mask
I duplicated the original, blurred it and then added the above image as an alpha mask. The black/white objects become opaque/transparent, which lets the blurred image come out above the original, here’s the result: halo dpof test result
The Stop the War national march yesterday in London was a jolly affair, the speakers were good, although Mister Lowkey deserved special mention as a fantastic orator who made his point clearly and with gusto. Once again I must be reminded that rappers don’t always talk like they do in their songs.
I marched with the student bloc, someone from school was also supposed to turn up, they didn’t (but had a fair reason why not). I got to shoot 13 minutes of video which I hope to condense down to something which will go up on the video archive later on.
