How to connect with the youth

I’ve just come back from a fantastic HIV talk by a lady called Emma Cole. She writes a blog which I am now subscribed to (I was the only one to take the leaflet with her blog on). She spoke truthfully and honestly without being flippant or dismissive. More importantly she regarded us as a crowd of adults and not a crowd of children. Sometimes when people want to appeal to us they group us all as one stereotype and talk down to us with a patronizing air. Emma didn’t do that, she deserves some sort of praise for that alone.

This talk was during a complimentary studies hour. Considering the kind of dislike many students hold towards complimentary studies it was surprising to see that the talk was indeed an hour well spent.
