Tom, I think that police carrying guns is a great thing as long as they use them correctly, which they won't. I hate to use Michael Moore of all people to back me up in my arguement but I'm afriad I shall.

You see Pierre, the scope of your judgement is unfortunately narrow: armed response teams tackle more than just terrorism, for example gun crime. If a criminal has a gun, no amount of notepads, whistles, and frienliness is going to stop them if intent on killing someone.
The US system of every cop carrying a gun is definately flawed; however a system with the police carrying no guns? The British system is a fair compramise.
As you stated above, guns are made to kill people; however if one person shall kill 30 would their life not be a justified loss? It is utilitarian i admit, and you may not agree, but you should definately consider it.

Of course it's important to protect the people. My argument is that guns are built to kill people, if people are carrying guns that means they foresee using them at some point. However, the risk of me or you being killed in a terrorist attack is so incredibly low I'm able to dimiss it, guns aren't necessary.

Surely it is good to enforce the law strongly? Protecting the people is the most important thing and using any means neccesary to do so is the best way forward in my mind.
