I thought I’d interrupt my normal flowing journalism to highlight how annoying it is that Facebook promotes crappy applications. Especially those which have no discernible function than to propagate themselves through people’s friends lists, snaring more and more people in their evil net. One good example is Fan Check, an app which using your personal information calculates who your biggest fans are. Here’s the annoying bit: it then creates an image with all your ‘fans’ profile pictures in a ranked order, then it tags each fan in that picture.
A typical scenario is that I’m tagged in one of these pictures, along with several comments discussing their ranking in that person’s ‘fan list’. Then in the ‘Pictures of Pierre’ there are a couple of collages which feature my profile picture under the title ‘Fan Check’. I un-tagged myself from these photos as a gesture of protest.
There are far too many useless applications on Facebook.

Although the app was originally called Stalkercheck, all it really does is go through your friends list and single out those who are most active. I really like social media I tend to rely on Facebook quite a lot, this makes me an active user. I recently made a point of commenting on loads of other people’s stuff so that it doesn’t feel like a one-way flow of information from me to my friends. None of this constitutes stalking.
