Yesterday I got up at 4:30 to blockade the AWE ‘nuclear bomb factory’ in Aldermaston. It was cold, some people were arrested, and there was a tent operated by the Oxford branch of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament which gave out food to the protesters. Protesting makes people hungry, they passed out some excellent organic vegan pasties and raisin buns which were yummy. All the food was free and people donated what they wanted, is that Anarcho-Capitalism?
We even got in the news on the BBC, Morning Star and Reuters.
Here’s the resulting photo dump:
Thanks to Adrian Windisch for the group photo.
We failed in blocking people from entering the factory, the workers all entered before most of the protesters arrived. We did however make a huge fuss and everyone passing through Aldermaston that day was reminded that there is significant opposition to spending on nuclear weapons.
EDIT: CND have a Flickr page with more photos of yesterday’s blockade on it. They haven’t got a gallery and don’t tag their images so that’s all the photos they’ve posted in February 2010.
